About The Event
Spend a week immersed in the timeless craft of painting on jute canvas at Villa Poggio Bernone, an antique-filled villa surrounded by the golden hills of southern Tuscany. Guided by artists Javier and Roberta, this hands-on workshop welcomes all levels—whether you’re just beginning your creative journey or looking to deepen your skills.
Over seven inspiring days, you’ll learn to prepare a jute canvas using rabbit glue and chalk, sketch your design, and mix natural pigments into rich, earthy colors. You’ll paint with egg tempera and finish your work with delicate gold accents, just as Renaissance artisans once did. Every stage is steeped in tradition, yet open to your personal expression.
Accommodations include a private or shared room, each with its own generous en-suite bathroom (toilet, shower, vanity, and yes, even a bidet!). Between studio sessions, you can relax by the villa’s pool, explore nearby medieval villages, or linger over home-cooked Tuscan meals—served family-style and crafted with fresh, local ingredients.
With a small group size and plenty of individual attention, this retreat offers the rare gift of time and space to create. You’ll return home with a completed jute canvas painting, the knowledge to continue the process, and the memory of a week where art and the beauty of Italy became inseparable.

Travel Insurance
All participants are required to obtain comprehensive travel insurance prior to attending the retreat. This insurance should include, but is not limited to: coverage for trip cancellation or interruption, medical emergencies, personal injury, loss of personal belongings, and travel delays. Tuscany Unveiled is not responsible for any costs incurred due to lack of insurance or insufficient coverage. Proof of travel insurance may be requested prior to the start of the retreat.
