Miniature Painting Workshop - Instructors Roberta and Javier

Join us for a week-long artistic journey at Villa Poggio Bernone, a rustic, antique-filled haven nestled in the rolling hills of southern Tuscany. Led by artists Javier and Roberta, this intimate workshop invites you to step into the luminous world of medieval miniature painting—whether it’s your very first brushstroke or a return to a beloved craft.

Over seven peaceful days, you’ll learn centuries-old techniques for preparing your painting surface, applying gold leaf, and creating richly detailed images using egg tempera and natural pigments. Each step connects you to a tradition passed down through generations of artisans, all while allowing your own style to shine.

Your stay includes a private or shared room, each with its own spacious en-suite bathroom (toilet, shower, vanity, and—yes—even a bidet!). When you’re not in the atelier, you might be exploring nearby medieval towns, enjoying the villa’s pool, or savoring home-cooked meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Shared family-style and full of heart, these meals are as much a part of the retreat as the art itself.

With a small group size and plenty of personal guidance, this retreat is designed to nurture both skill and spirit. You’ll leave with a completed miniature painting, new techniques to carry forward, and memories of a week steeped in creativity, connection, and the rhythms of Italian life.

Ticket Fees & Payment Processing

When purchasing tickets through our website, a 2.5% ticket service fee will be added at checkout. This fee goes directly to our event platform and is non-refundable.

Travel Insurance 

All participants are required to obtain comprehensive travel insurance prior to attending the retreat. This insurance should include, but is not limited to: coverage for trip cancellation or interruption, medical emergencies, personal injury, loss of personal belongings, and travel delays. Tuscany Unveiled is not responsible for any costs incurred due to lack of insurance or insufficient coverage. Proof of travel insurance may be requested prior to the start of the retreat.
