Icon Painting with Emil Tzeinski

Join renowned iconographer Emil Tzeinski for a contemplative, week-long retreat in the heart of southern Tuscany. Held at Villa Poggio Bernone, this small-group experience invites you to explore the sacred art of icon painting through traditional techniques, natural materials, and quiet reflection.

Over seven immersive days, you’ll learn to draw, gild, and paint your own Christian icon using egg tempera and natural pigments on a wooden panel. Rooted in centuries of Byzantine tradition, Emil’s teaching honors both the craft and the spiritual depth of iconography. His calm, attentive style blends hands-on instruction with moments of silence and personal guidance, making this a deeply rewarding experience for both beginners and those with artistic experience.

Guests stay in private or shared rooms, each with a spacious en-suite bathroom (shower, toilet, vanity, and yes, a bidet). When you're not in the studio, you'll have time to explore nearby medieval villages, relax by the villa’s pool, and gather with fellow artists for family-style meals crafted from fresh, local ingredients.

This retreat is more than a class, it’s an invitation to slow down, connect with beauty, and create something truly sacred with your own hands. Each participant will leave with a completed icon, new skills, and a meaningful memory of artistic and spiritual connection.

Ticket Fees & Payment Processing

When purchasing tickets through our website, a 2.5% ticket service fee will be added at checkout. This fee goes directly to our event platform and is non-refundable.

Travel Insurance 

All participants are required to obtain comprehensive travel insurance prior to attending the retreat. This insurance should include, but is not limited to: coverage for trip cancellation or interruption, medical emergencies, personal injury, loss of personal belongings, and travel delays. Tuscany Unveiled is not responsible for any costs incurred due to lack of insurance or insufficient coverage. Proof of travel insurance may be requested prior to the start of the retreat.
